As we experience unprecedented danger to and uncertainty around formal systems of support, we’re working on the following 2026 Goals to meet the needs of the moment:
Develop accessible and community-driven food access, increase public policy advocacy, and surveying disabled community to understand changing needs and address the on-the-ground reality of the cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program).
Increase capacity for peer and community support by offering additional skill-share and self-advocacy workshops and facilitating new small peer support group cohorts.
Increase community support by directly assisting 2,000 community members.
Dedicate 800 staff hours to maintaining the region’s largest mutual aid network and connecting donors with over 50 financial recipients per year.
Establish a centralized physical location for our Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Care Closet to streamline inventory and distribution.
Continue to host masked community events, including Disability Day of Mourning (DDOM).
Provide monthly Community and Provider trainings to increase education and disability awareness across the region.
As a grassroots organization, we rely on our community’s support to keep our lights on and pay our fantastic staff. The Pittsburgh Center for Disability Justice is a fiscally sponsored project of Side Project, Inc. This means that PCDJ and Side Project have a special agreement under which Side Project manages the legal and compliance aspects of PCDJ, sharing its nonprofit status with us in exchange for a fee. Side Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
